Quality control

Glued connections must be manufactured with exceptional diligence since gluing defects are extremely difficult to determine subsequently. For this reason, manufacturers Glued laminated timber made of beech and hybrid beams made of beech/spruce must be in possession of certification for the gluing of load-bearing timber components in accordance with DIN 1052: 2008-12, Section 14 and Appendix A.

Gluing certification is issued by the Materials Testing Institute at the University of Stuttgart (Otto Graf Institute) by appointment to the German Institute of Structural Engineering.

In addition to gluing certification, the manufacturer must set up a factory production control in accordance with authorisation and be certified by an notified body.

Please refer to the Deutschen Institut für Bautechnik (German Institute of Structural Engineering) homepage (www.dibt.de) for a list of approved inspection, monitoring and certification bodies for glued laminated timber.

Marking

Glued laminated timber made of beech and hybrid beams made of beech/spruce shall be marked with the conformity sign (so called Ü-Zeichen). When using a conformity sign based on a certificate, the manufacturer confirms that the quality control required by the building authorities has been applied.

In addition, the members and/or delivery notes must be identified with the following information:

-  Identification of item approved

-  Strength class
-  Day of manufacture
